Independence Beach is named after the Independence Hotel, which was built on the beach’s northern headland in the decade following Cambodian Independence and completed in 1960, the year the port and town were founded.

A tree-lined stretch of soft, silvery-white sand and gentle waters, Independence Beach is great option for those looking for long walks on the beach in relative solitude. While there are several other hotels near the southern end of the beach, the northernmost portion of the beach, where the Independence Hotel is located, has no public access.

Walking from south to north you will have your pick of shady trees to set up your beach gear and enjoy a quiet day of sunbathing and swimming without disturbance from hawkers or other tourists.

Independence Beach is located SW of Sihanoukville town and N of Sokha Beach, a ten minute tuk tuk or motorbike ride from town or Ochheuteal Beach. Independence Beach can be visited on a bicycle, though a few of the hills along this portion of the coast will get your heart-rate up in the heat of the day. Sihanoukville is located 3-5 hours from Phnom Penh by taxi or bus and 3-4 hours from Koh Kong.
