Iboih is a little village located on the northern arm of Weh Island, to the north of Banda Aceh in northern Sumatra. It features resorts and beaches and is particularly well known for its excellent diving and hiking.

Iboih is very popular with backpackers and those who enjoy laying back and relaxing on beaches. The diving here is of another major appeal of the place, with many striking reefs just offshore. Rubiah islet is nearby and has the most colorful reefs in the area.

There’s also some pretty good hiking just inland up a volcano and Weh Island is only a few kilometers across so you’re unlikely to get lost. Accommodation in Iboih village is backpacker bungalow style - either on the beach, in the center of the village or just behind in the jungle.

The city of Sabang is not worth exploring, but Gapang Beach in the south of the island is.

Getting There & Away

Banda Aceh Airport is the gateway to Iboih, lying 40kms to the south on the tip of Aceh Province. Flight time from Jakarta is 2 hours, 40 minutes. From Banda Aceh the boat trip to Sabang, the main port on Weh Island, takes around an hour. Minivans make the trip to Iboih from Sabang port within the hour.
