Higatangan Island is an interesting little island in the Visayas Islands of the central Philippines. It is mainly celebrated for its diving, beaches and wonderful rock formations.

The island was originally under the sea and was pushed up millions of years ago through plate activity. As a result, the rock on the island is porous and strange looking while elaborate rock formations encircle the coast. One of the most moving formations on Higatangan Island is the 200-meter long sand bar that changes direction depending on sea currents.

Visitors can swim off and sunbathe on the sandbar as well as walk around the island completely, taking in the numerous beautiful white beaches (mainly north and west) and the lush interior. The snorkeling and diving on Higatangan Island is really nice, with many types of hard and soft corals and abundance of friendly colorful fish.
