HatTon Sai is a Krabi beach not far south of Ao Nang and is best known for its rock climbing and cheap digs. It is mainly popular with backpackers and adventure types and doesn’t have as nice a beach as nearby Rai Leh.
The swimming is not all that good on HatTon Sai due to its rocky make up although that doesn’t matter to most visitors as they are mainly interested in the excellent climbing. Hat Ton Sai has nearly as many good climbs as Rai Leh, along with loads of guides and climbing schools.
Other attractions include the walk to Phra Nang Beach and nearby Phra Nang Cave and shrine. Night-time is a buzz at Hat Ton Sai, with cool beach bars and restaurants and fire tricks galore. Lodgings are set back off the beach and mainly consist of bamboo bungalows, while street vendors offer cheap Thai food.
Getting There & Away
Like the other beaches in the vicinity, Hat Ton Sai is only accessible by boat and your best bet is to come from Ao Nang, via Rai Leh. Boats direct from Krabi Town are few and far between. You can fly to Krabi direct from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport - a 1-hour, 30-minute flight - and transfer to Krabi Town in about 20 minutes.
