Maenam is mainly a residential area with a scattering of hotels and places to stay. It sits on the main ring road that circles the island and has a long stretch of sandy beach and turquoise waters, with a great view over the Gulf of Thailand to Koh Phangan.
The main road is lined with a collection of local go-go and beer bars that serve cheap beer, loud music and screaming Thai girls. There are a few cafés and coffee shops that are frequented by locals and expats and as Samui gets more developed, there are more bars and restaurants aimed at tourists being opened all the time in Maenam.
There are shops and stalls selling beautifully handcrafted coconut bowls, handbags, Buddha statues and locally made ceramics. The beach is never busy and the area as a whole is calm and tranquil and a great place to take a daytrip.
Getting There & Away
Maenam sits just north of Bophut and is a 30-minute drive away from Samui’s international airport. Maenam is home to the Lomprayah Catamaran docking area that sees catamarans travels from Chumphon, a town on the mainland that has rail and bus connections with Bangkok.
