Hat Kamala (Kamala Beach) is one beach up from Patong on the west coast of Phuket and couldn’t be more different than its noisy neighbor. It is ideal for those looking for a quiet holiday yet want to be within reach of Patong’s nightlife.
The best thing about Hat Kamala is that is doesn’t get really crowded like Patong and is thus better for enjoying sunbathing and swimming. Hat Kamala is also famous for hosting the popular Phuket FantaSea attraction, a theme park and show that presents the culture of Thailand and comes with a fantastic restaurant and good shopping.
The southern end of Hat Kamala is the busiest, but for some peace head to the north. Hotels here tend to be cheaper and friendlier on the whole than those of Patong. Other Hat Kamala sights include a Buddhist temple in the south and a tsunami monument in the middle. A sizeable town is a few minutes walk from the beach.
Getting There & Away
Hat Kamala is about the same distance away from Phuket International Airport as Phuket Town is and lies on the west of the island. From the airport it is around 45 minutes by taxi, which is the best option for getting here. Phuket’s airport has frequent connections with Bangkok, where a greater choice of international flights are available.
