Hat Chaweng is the main tourist hotspot on the tropical island of Koh Samui and it has a wide collection of hotels, guest houses, shops, bars and restaurants to choose from. The most famous landmark in the town is the powdery white beach, which runs the whole length of the town for an impressive three miles.
There is a vast selection of five-star hotels that fight for beachfront space, most of which have good restaurants and fresh seafood on offer. The beach road runs adjacent to the beach in a one-way system and is always busy with people, taxis, songthaew (shared taxis) and motorbikes.
There are many busy bars, with the main nightlife area in the center of town known as the Green Mango. There are shops and stalls lining the beach road that sell various souvenirs and gifts but be prepared to barter the price. There are lots of internet cafés and travel agencies looking to assist you with any bookings, from cable ride adventures to your onward air tickets.
Getting There & Away
Koh Samui’s international and domestic airport is a 15-minute drive from Chaweng and easily accessed in a car, taxi or local songthaew. Here you will find regular connections to Bangkok, where long-haul international flights are available. There is also a constant precession of boats arriving from the mainland and other nearby islands.
