Ha Tien is a Gulf of Thailand seaside town right at the border with Cambodia in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam. Its remoteness is its main attraction for the more discerning traveler, with a distinct lack of tourist kitsch.
Big skies and almost deserted beaches are the theme in Ha Tien. The center of town is easy-going on foot, with the main street, Tran Hau, running along the seafront having lots of appeal.
There are a couple of temples in town worth checking out if you can tear yourself away from the gorgeous coast. They are Chua Tam Bao (the main one), Tinh Xa Ngoc Ho, and Chua Giai Thoat. Those into cycling will enjoy the ride to nearby Mui Nai beach, skirting the Cambodian border, and then back into town.
Ha Tien has decent accommodation options, especially along Tran Hau, Chi Lang, and Mach Thien Tich streets.
Getting There & Away
Bus is the main way to get to Ha Tien as there is no airport; the nearest one is on Phu Quoc Island and the main one in Ho Chi Minh City. Transfer time by bus from Ho Chi Minh City is around 8 hours - buses leave from Mien Tay terminal regularly as well as from Can Tho.
