Gongshan is a small mountain town in northwest Yunnan that resides on the edge of the Nujiang Gorge. Access is by bus by way of the town of Fugong, a 16-hour trip from Kunming, the capital.
The area is one of high mountains and a deep gorge, with the huge Dulong River running past. It is inhabited by ethnic minorities, including the Lisu, and the town is mostly traditional with old houses and not much to do. A little track connects Gongshan with the Nujiang Gorge.
Gongshan is a county encompassing many villages - one of the most interesting being Bingzhongluo Village, which lies between Liuku and Gongshan. There is good hiking near here, with a suspended bridge, cable car and several natural sights. Keep a look out for Stone Moon and Dandang Park.
Getting There & Away
