Duong Dong is the main center on the beautiful island of Phu Quoc, which is just off the southwest coast of southern Vietnam in Kien Giang Province.
Most people come to Phu Quoc to visit the many beaches and chill out rather than stay in Duong Dong, yet there are one or two half-decent attractions in town. The main ones are the colorful market and delicious seafood. Other attractions in town include the Buddhist shrine at Dinh Cau Rock at the mouth of the Duong Dong River.
Another popular thing to do in Duong Dong is to visit a fish sauce factory where aromatic Phu Quoc fish sauce is churned out. Be sure to also take a look out to sea of a night to see the fishing boats on the horizon lit up to attract squid.
Getting There & Away
The best way to get to Duong Dong is to fly and the island’s airport is in Duong Dong. Several flights land here daily from Ho Chi Minh City Airport. You could also take a ferry from Rach Gia or Ha Tien, with fast hydrofoils also running from Rach Gia. Ho Chi Minh City Airport is the closest major airport to Duong Dong, less than an hour’s flight time.
