Doi Pha Hom Pok (aka Doi Fahhompok) is Thailand’s second-highest mountain (2,285 meters) and is located right on the border with Myanmar.
At the park headquarters, there are attractive bungalows for rent, and the air is rich with sulphur from the hot springs here. There’s one geyser that has been programed to shoot spray high into the air every 30 minutes, which makes a good photo, and there are public and private areas where you can soak yourself in the warm, revitalizing, mineral waters.
Near the top of the mountain is a campsite in a pine grove, from where a trail leads up to the top of the mountain through a hillside of dense vegetation draped with epiphytes, emerging at the top to offer great views over Myanmar and North Thailand. It’s best to do this walk, which takes a few hours to get there and back, early in the day to avoid the heat of the afternoon. It makes a great day to walk tothe summit in the morning, then ease your aches and pains in the hot springs in the afternoon.
