Dipolog is capital of Zamboanga del Norte Province in northwest Zamboanga Peninsular, a first class city best known for its beaches on the Sulu Sea. There are also several worthwhile attractions in town and a stunning countryside of rolling hills.
Gateway to Western Mindanao, Dipolog has also been known as the ‘Bottled Sardines Capital of the Philippines‘ owing to its massive sardine industry and is also big into wild orchids.
There are several attractions in Dipolog for the lover of the outdoors, including the well established Cogon Eco-Park - an area of hundreds of acres of reforestation. The park was founded way back in 1958 and features numerous mature groves of mahogany, teak, rattan and many other trees. There are numerous species of birds, reptiles and animals to check out here, along with some good mountaineering and camping. Linabo Peak is also worth a look.
Getting There & Away
Dipolog is about 90 minutes’ flying time from Manila and there are daily flights from the capital with Philippine Airlines. You can also get to Dipolog from Cebu City by ferry and by bus from Zamboanga City in the south of the Zamboanga Peninsular.
