Dien Bien province borders both Laos and China in the Muong Thanh valley, a huge heart-shaped region. Possessing some of northwestern Vietnam’s most beautiful scenery, the province boasts mountains, springs and valleys which are sprawled throughout the area.
Apart from its tropical environment, tourists visit Dien Bien for a dose of history as the province was the site of the famous Dien Bien Phu Battle during the First Indochinese War. Details about the battle can be learned at the Museum of Dien Bien Phu.
The province is also home to the Noong Nahi vestige, Dien Bien Phu vestige and Muong Phang forest, and there are a number of scenic areas and landmarks that are popular among visitors such as the Ban Phu citadel and the Pa Khaong reservoir.
If traveling to Dien Bien by plane from Hanoi, the flight takes roughly one hour. National highway 6 from Tuan Giao connects to Dien Bien along with national highway 12 from the Ma Lu Thang border.
