The Delta Region is an alluvial plain in the center of Myanmar. The Irrawaddy River flows through the Delta Region and is the area’s life force.

The Delta Region is very accessible to travelers in Myanmar as it extends northwest from the capital city of Yangon. Visitors to this region of Myanmar will have the unique opportunity to witness daily life. People wash and catch fish in the waters, stopping to wave as you sail past.

There are a number of small islands to explore in the Delta Region, many of them uninhabited. Take a boat tour through the mangrove swamps and discover new skills such as weaving, paper parasol manufacture and farming.

Getting There & Away

Tourists can only use the main airport at Yangon. The easiest way to explore the Delta Region is by taking a boat trip from Yangon down the Irrawaddy River on the overnight ferry to Pathein (14 hours).
