Dawei is the capital of Myanmar’s Tanintharyi Division in the southeast of the country. It sits on the north banks of the Dawei River, 380 miles from Yangon and 18 miles inland from the Andaman Sea.

The region is famous for rubber production as well as exporting teak wood, cashew nuts, betel nuts and dried fish products. It is home to a pretty beach, which is the second oldest resort in the country, and it takes about 40 minutes from the city center to get here.

The region is well known for producing Dawei longyi sarongs and it farms a tasty variety of fruits, from pineapples and mangoes to mangosteens and durian, as well as boasting the only place in Myanmar to grow the zin thi fruit. On the outskirts of Dawei are a host of hot water springs and the largest reclining Buddha in the country is only 15 miles away.

Getting There & Away

Dawei is connected to the rest of the country by road and railway, which see buses and cars running between Dawei and other major tourist points, making it easily accessible.
