Those in need of functional and fashionable headwear once flocked to the city of Danbury in Fairfield County, Connecticut where, at the height of its success, the appropriately dubbed ‘Hat City’ was responsible for producing 25 percent of America’s hats. These days only the nickname remains as testament to this once thriving industry.

With a population approaching 80,000, Danbury is considered one of the state’s fastest growing cities. A large ethnic component to the population gives the city a diverse cultural atmosphere and contributes to its restaurant scene and annual festival selection. Industry has moved on to areas such as publishing, home accessories and chemicals

The city has a thriving cultural entertainment scene with no shortage of theater and live music venues as well as centers for the appreciation of local artists. Museums tell much of the city’s interesting past while a good selection of parks makes for myriad outdoor activity opportunities.
