Damenglong is a small and rather sleepy town situated in Yunnan Province and is blessed by abundant natural beauty on all sides.
This is a good place to hire a bicycle and simply cycle through the countryside, perhaps taking the time to explore any tiny villages you encounter along the way. In this part of the world, village life has remained virtually unchanged for centuries and exploring provides an interesting insight into the traditional Chinese way of life.
Damenglong makes a good daytrip destination from the city of Jinghong as it is located just 70kms to the south. The Myanmar border is also within cycling distance and this makes an interesting place to compare and contrast the Burmese and Chinese cultures.
Although there are some reasonable places to eat and sleep, there is little need to stick around in Damenglong for too long. It is perhaps best to use Jinghong as a base to visit as the novelty of this pretty town soon wears thin.
Getting There & Away
There are regular buses to Damenglong from the city of Jinghong (3 hours), where there is an international airport. It is also possible to take a bus to Damenglong from a handful of other places such as Kunming and Lancang.
