The northwest coast of Samar is home to the quiet island of Dalupiri and although it is a fairly uneventful place, it has a certain charm that can draw visitors into staying longer than expected.

The beaches are peaceful and lined at the back with an assortment of beach style bungalows and rustic restaurants. The swimming and snorkeling off the main beach is good and the roads are edged by coconut trees, which make them cool and shady when walking around the area.

It is also possible to hire bicycles to get around rather than just walking and a trip around the island will give visitors a real feel for rural Filipino life. The desolate roads have a handful of small restaurants and shops for basic necessities and there are boat trips available to explore the nearby islands.

Getting There & Away

Manila is home to the nearest international airport and there are regular flights from the capital to nearby Tacloban City that take 1 hour, 30 minutes. From Tacloban, the drive to Dalupiri takes 2 hours. There are also buses to and from Manila to Luzon that take 12 hours, from where a mixture of boats and buses will take you to Samar.
