In capital city Hartford, it is still possible to catch glimpses of the state’s traditional New England charm amongst the thriving newness of city life. Home to leading Yale University, New Haven is known internationally as a world center for higher learning, and contains a multitude of world class museums. For panoramic views over the city, head to either the East Rock or the West Rock, with the spectacular Judges’ Cave. A joy to climb, they allow the visitor to relish a different perspective of this progressive port structured around a large green. A vibrant nightlife in downtown New Haven can be enjoyed by anyone passing through.
Much loved by locals and tourists alike is the area around the port of Mystic. Two favorite attractions are the Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium, though those choosing to simply stroll through this majestic place will be rewarded by the area’s charm. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are two very popular Native American casinos.
Fairfield County is home to many a sprawling mansion, as well as some excellent beaches and marinas. The Stamford Museum and Nature Center boasts a functioning farm full of animals and is a wonderful place to picnic and take in the area’s beauty. Here you will find a planetarium and a good selection of nature trails. Some great seafood is to be found in the area’s many seaside restaurants.
