Cha-Am sits on the east coast of Thailand and is a little known beach resort that is popular with local Thai people, with the majority of foreigners preferring to stay in nearby Hua Hin. Cha-Am is situated very conveniently, only two hours south of Bangkok off of the main highway 4, and boasts the longest stretch of beach in the country.
Most visitors explore the area at the weekend and during Thai holidays. There are three main landmarks in the town; the beach, the train station and the market, all of which provide a nice insight into Thai culture and the relaxed way of life here.
Cha-Am is a little gem, and due to its popularity with Thai people, it is a great place to sneak an insight into the Thai way of life. The beach is full of deck chairs and umbrellas and the sea is perfect for swimming. There is a good range of accommodation to choose from and delicious seafood is available at the many restaurants that line the beach.
Getting There & Away
Reaching the town is easy as it sits just off highway 4, which runs from Bangkok to Hat Yai. The closest international airport is in Bangkok and domestic flights arrive and depart in Hua Hin, only a short minibus or hire car drive away. There is also a train station in Cha-am with a regular service running from most major destinations, with first, second and third class seating available.
