Located on the south-eastern coast of Wales, the capital Cardiff is a city that has undergone major renovation in recent years, particularly in and around its historic bay. Home of the Millennium Stadium, until recently the largest in the UK, Cardiff hosts regular major sporting events and concerts – although such activity will undoubtedly diminish since the opening of the new Wembley Stadium in London. Cardiff is host to a number of historic churches and other buildings that complement its recent drive towards modernization.

Cardiff Bay is one of the liveliest areas of the city, with boat trips and many new bars and restaurants following redevelopment that has transformed it into one of the most sought-after real estate areas in the western British Isles. The bay is also the world’s largest port. Llandaff Cathedral is the oldest in Europe, with construction dating back to the beginning of the 12th century during the Norman era. Just outside the city, Castle Coch is even more impressive, featuring a gothic main turret and a wealth of centuries old artifacts.

As the capital of Wales, Cardiff has a strong complement of museums and exhibitions like the National Museum and Gallery of Wales which specializes in impressionist paintings among other styles, along with archaeological artifacts. St Mary street is the place to go for entertainment after hours but it can get overly rowdy at weekends.
