This stunning national park is tucked away on the Caramoan Peninsula in the Philippines‘ Bicol Region. It is notable both for its spectacular coastal scenery and lack of development.

Caramoan is characterized by limestone rock formations and a beautiful coastline. The best beach in the national park is Gota Beach, a major attraction that features a brine pool, access to limestone islands jutting out of the water and the opportunity for wildlife viewing.

A great way to enjoy the coastline is to hire a sea kayak. The problem is that facilities are limited, so finding an outfitter is difficult. Bigger cities outside of Camaroan National Park (like Naga) have started to offer equipment for these kinds of experiences, though most of them are part of a group tour.

With all of the quirky limestone formations, it comes as no surprise that caving is a major pastime. The best cavern in the park is Omang Cave. It is easily accessed, but a flashlight is essential. Other caves in this area include Manipis and Culapnitan caves.

Accommodation is limited to a few hotels and mid-level resorts in Centro and Bikal, both of which are outside the park. Camping is allowed in designated areas inside the park, but campers have to bring their own gear.

Getting There & Away

Cameroan National Park is difficult to get to, a fact that keeps everything quiet and secluded. As the developers push for more infrastructure, transportation is becoming more straightforward. Flying from Manila into Naga Airport (a 1-hour journey) is the fastest way into the region and is followed by overland connections to the park. Otherwise, a 10-hour bus ride from Manila is in order.
