Calapan is a relatively new city and the capital of Oriental Minoro. Focusing more on fishing than tourism, Calapan is rather laid back and quiet compared to many tourist destinations.

Although rather pretty, there is little for tourists to do in Calapan, a fact willingly admitted by its own Municipal Planning and Development Office, who state in the town brochure ‘Calapan has no known tourist spots’. However, this is the only city in Oriental Minoro, making it a good place to stock up with supplies if you’re in the area.

A number of festivals are held in Calapan, and this is a good time to visit as the city suddenly wakes from its slumber in order to celebrate. Particularly popular are the Old Sandugan Festival and the Tinghoy Festival. Both festivals feature singing, dancing and large amounts of good food and drink.

Getting There & Away

The easiest way to get to Calapan is by direct flight from Manila (90 minutes). There are regular ferries to connect Calapan with the nearby towns and cities (about 45 minutes).
