Ca Mau lies in Ca Mau Province right in the south of Vietnam in the country’s southernmost province. The area is famed for its many bird parks and Khmer style pagodas.
As capital of the province, Ca Mau is a sizeable city and is one of canals, boats and barges. Ca Mau Province is bordered on two sides by the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand and it is majority-populated by ethnic Vietnamese and Chinese as well as ethnic Khmer.
The bird parks near Ca Mau are especially worth a look for those into wildlife as they contain many rare and exotic species. Vietnam’s southernmost - Mũi Cà Mau - is also near town while Khmer pagodas are all around. While in Ca Mau it is also worth visiting the U Minh area for its swamp cuisine and mangrove forests.
Getting There & Away
Flying to Ca Mau Airport is the best bet if you have the means as the trip by road is a fairly arduous one over 360kms of Mekong Delta landscape via National Road 1A. Ho Chi Minh City Airport is the main airport in the region, a half a day’s transfer from Ca Mau town.
