The Bukit Peninsula lies at the southern tip of Bali. It is a stark contrast to the landscape that covers the rest of the island as it is dry, stony and arid.
Development in the Bukit Peninsula has been encouraged by the government and there are plans to build big hotels and upscale tourist facilities. The region has cliff tops and sweeping hills to climb and explore and during the rainy season, it looks pleasantly green and fertile. Most of the time the land looks rugged and the valleys dry up before springing back into life in the wet months.
The plateau of limestone that the peninsula sits on is 200 meters above sea level and there is a new large golf course for visitors to make use of. The beach is magnificent and the sea is particularly green here. The luxury hotels here, such as Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons, have great spas that guests are welcome to use.
Visitors to the peninsula can drive along Uluwatu Road to Jimbaran Beach, a beautiful white sandy stretch with clear water. The beach offers spectacular sunsets and seafood diners in its beachfront cafes, but if you tire of the view you can always head to Uluwatu Temple, one of Bali’s most important and one of the island’s best sunset viewing points.
Getting There & Away
There is an international airport in Bali but the largest airport in Indonesia can be found in the capital city of Jakarta. Flights from Jakarta to Denpasar, Bali take 1 hour, 20 minutes and there are many flights every day between the two destinations. Reaching the peninsula from the airport is easy and only takes about 15 minutes in a taxi.
