The Blanco Renaissance Museum is unlike any other museum in Bali, let alone in Southeast Asia, hence its fame and popularity.
Antonio Blanco, a Spanish- born Balinese expatriate, is one of the most eccentric and well-known artists on the island. Visitors come from all over the world to see the displays and the ‘life museum’ of this intriguing character.
Although Antonio Blanco has now long since passed away, his home has been renovated and transformed into a mansion studio-cum museum that displays not only the work of Antonio himself, but also his very talented son, Mario. The Blanco Renaissance Museum is located in a beautiful spot on top of a hill in the western Ubud village of Campuan.
Although the artworks of Antonio Blanco and Mario Blanco are the major attractions within the museum, there are various other features that add that little extra edge to this hilltop home-museum. The museum is set in lush, tropical grounds, with carefully landscaped gardens and pockets of natural jungle. There are several species of birds inhabiting the Blanco Renaissance Museum, which have been trained as an added attraction.
In addition to the gardens and art exhibitions, visitors will be able to witness a number of interesting aspects of the mansion-studio-museum. Statues are sporadically sprinkled across the museum landscape, not to mention various sculptures. A temple which honors the Blanco family is located in the museum’s grounds.
