Like many other seaside locations in Bali, Benoa Harbour used to be an old fishing village and dock, and today many of the waterside properties have been developed into upscale hotels and resorts.

What’s left of the mangrove marsh can be found at the western side entrance. Benoa Harbour is situated 15kms from the airport but visitors staying in the Nusa Dua area, are just a few steps from the west gate. The cape’s development has accelerated thanks to the availability of water sport activities.

Tanjung Benoa, as it is known locally, lacks a rich cultural or historical heritage. However, the area is home to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island featuring unique grey-white sand. There is a Buddhist temple based on the northern shore of the peninsula, and the quaint fishing village’s promontory of Nusa Dua is a good place to enjoy water sports on the six-foot waves.

An exciting activity enjoyed by many in the area is the Flying Fish. This involves a parasailing-like amusement attached to an extra-large inflatable kite.

Other fun activities include the banana boat, scuba diving, snorkeling, wind surfing and an underwater cruise. This destination is usually heaving during the school holidays from June to August, so be prepared to stand in long queues if you visit at this time. Many of the activities kick off early morning in order to avoid turbulent tide patterns.
