Batu Balong is a quiet beach resort in the Senggigi coastal region, a 30-kilometer stretch of beach to the northeast of Mataram on Lombok Island. There is also a Batu Balong dive site off the coast of Flores Island.

Batu Balong (Batu Bolong) lies to the south of Senggigi Beach, the main beach of this part of West Lombok. It is a lot quieter than nearby Senggigi Beach and not quite as pretty as Mangsit Beach (north of Senggigi), but has some nice accommodation and swimming.

One part of Batu Balong has a large rock with a hole in it and there is also a Hindu temple worth checking out here. The snorkeling in Batu Balong is not as good as elsewhere in Lombok yet the sunsets across the Lombok Strait are superb. Batu Balong has minimal nightlife, with Senggigi Beach having the best of it and Senggigi town decent facilities.

Side attractions from Batu Balong include the nearby Gili Islands of Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan, which are a short boat ride from Senggigi.

Getting There & Away

Batu Balong is a 15- to 20-minute bemo or taxi journey from Selaparang Airport in Mataram. This is Lombok’s main airport and receives flights from Bali’s larger international airport in around 20 minutes. You can also get here by boat from Bali (5 hours), while the Gili Islands are between 1 and 2 hours away from Senggigi by boat.
