This huge teak house was built on 130 enormous teak logs with intricately carved bases, and after 5 years’ work, it was completed in 1977.

The house is full of everything imaginable which could be made out of teak and much of it is for sale. Although really just a large shop, it is still worth a visit, but don’t expect any of the intricate carvings that are the hallmark of Vongburi House and Khum Chao Luang.

The impressive house is two kilometers west of the intersection of Muang Hit and Ratchadamnoen roads. On the way you will pass another beautiful wooden house on your right (look for the fence posts). It is worth a peek over the fence and is far less over the top than Ban Prathup Jai with its own collection of spectacular carvings standing around in the garden.

You will have to pay 40 baht to get in, twice what the Thais pay, but you get a tacky elephant souvenir for your generosity — a perfect gift for the mother-in-law.
