Situated in the south of the Philippines, the sleepy town of Balingoan is a stopping off point for people on their way to the island of Camiguin.
Little more than a fishing village, there isn’t really much for tourists to stop for in Balingoan. However, this is a very peaceful town and could make a good place to spend the night if you arrive too late to cross the water to Camiguin Island.
There are a few places to stay in town, and restaurants mostly serve seafood prepared in the local style. Walking through the town is a pleasant pastime, and walking to the port provides refreshing breezes on a hot day.
Getting There & Away
Balingoan is best reached from Cagayan de Oro, which is a 90-minute bus ride away. There are daily flights to Cagayan de Oro from Manila (90 minutes). There are also regular buses to places such as to Butuan (3 hours, 30 minutes) and Surigao (6 hours) and Iligan (1 hour, 30 minutes).
