Balbalasang-Balbalan National Park is in Luzon, Philippines. The park encompasses an area of 1,340 hectares and is home to an array of wildlife and native flora.
The national park consists of two mountain ranges and multiple creeks leading to the main waterway, the Saltan River. The steep rocky terrain has deep valleys and thick forests. On the western side of the park is Mount Sapocoy, which offers fantastic views over the Cagayan Valley and Ilocos region.
There are a multitude of walkways and tracks for exploring the park and these vary in difficulty. It is advisable to hire a local guide if you plan on going deep into the forest. There are adventure tours which entail rock climbing, challenging treks and kayaking. Nature lovers will thoroughly enjoy the scenery and great bird watching opportunities.
With just a few bungalows for rent, accommodation is limited although camping is possible within designated areas. It is quite easy to travel from the nearby town of Balbalan, where there are more hotels and guest houses available. Jeepneys can make the journey in around 30 minutes.
Getting There & Away
Balbalasang-Balbalan National Park is easily reached by traveling to the town of Tabuk, which is approximately 25kms away. Tabuk is just 1 hour’s drive away from Tuguegarao, where there is a domestic airport with daily flights to Manila, typically taking 1 hour. It is also possible to take a bus from Baguio City, where there is also an airport, but the drive takes around 2 hours from the national park. Alternatively, buses taking between 10 and 12 hours are available from Manila.
