In the south of Bali, lying in the Bukit Peninsula, is a beautiful stretch of coastline called Balangan Beach. It is located on the western side of the peninsula and spectacular views out over the ocean can be enjoyed here, especially at sunset.

There are long sandy beaches mixed in with rocky shores that provide an awesome swell for avid surfers and thrill-seeking swimmers.

Surfers from all over the world head to this part of Bali and there are commonly more people in the sea having fun than there are lying on the beach relaxing! Backing the coastal area is a collection of small warungs; chilled out restaurants serving up a mixture of local and western dishes. These are often frequented by surfers and those who like to watch the waves roll in as well as couples looking to catch a pretty sunset.

There are a handful of small resorts offering modest rooms for all types of travelers from young surfers to the hip, older crowd. It is easy to spend a few nights here chilling out but some seem to spend an eternity relaxing in the tropical climate on offer as it provides so much more than just ‘another beach on Bali’.

Balangan Beach is located off the beaten track so it can be tricky to reach if you are unsure of the exact route. Local buses from Kuta and the airport will be able to get you about one mile away from the coastline and it is just a 20-minute walk from the bus stop
