Bais City is situated in the southeast of Negros Island, one of the main Visayas islands. It’s a medium sized, 2nd class city and a bit of a nondescript place although has plenty of appeal at the shore.

The area is best known for its dolphins and visitors can charter a boat, or get on a tour, and go out into the marine sanctuary of the Tañon Strait to see them. This is also a popular whale watching area in season. You can expect to see bottlenose dolphins, pan-tropical spotted dolphins, and long-snout spinner dolphins, along with a host of whale species, including sperm whales. Boat trips go from Capiñahan Wharf near the town.

Other activities at Bais City beaches include snorkeling and scuba diving and there are plenty of interesting reefs nearby. One of the most popular spots for swimming and diving is the Manjuyod White Sand Bar. Mangroves also go around the coastline near to Bais City where there is an abundance of marine life.

There is plenty of accommodation in Bais City and a load of restaurants worth eating at. The Bamboo restaurant is particularly recommended.

Getting There & Away

Bais City is around 45kms from Dumaguete, the provincial capital, where there is an airport. Dumaguete City Airport is an hour from Manila Domestic Airport - around 20 minutes from Cebu’s airport - and there are regular flights. The Capiñahan Wharf in South Bais Bay receives ferries from all over the Philippines.
