Situated in southwest South Dakota]], Badlands National Park is massive. The park is popular with tourists who come to walk, cycle, trek and camp in the rugged landscape which has been forged from wind and water blasting the soil.
A mix of outstanding and eerie landscapes comprising of buttes, pinnacles and living creatures - some notably bigger than others such as 2,000-pound bison - the wastelands offer a wealth of trails. With black-footed ferrets having been reintroduced to the park and rattle snakes being common, walkers should keep their eyes peeled and watch their step. The weather here is highly unpredictable and whatever your planned itinerary, you should register with a park ranger before setting off to one of the seasonal campgrounds. Remember to leave nothing behind except footprints and take nothing away except memories.
