Thong Sai is nestled in a quiet cove on the northeast coast of Koh Samui and is one of the most deserted places on the island. It has a stunning beach that is often empty and it offers great swimming in a part of the ocean that is untouched by jet-skis and motor boats.

Most people who visit the area choose to stay in the nearby small town of Choeng Mon, where there is a plethora of hotels, bars and restaurants to choose from as well as a beautiful beach. Ao Thong Sai itself is a mainly residential area that is home to many Thai huts and houses and the road is not always readily accessible. It is situated just 20 minutes from the airport and 25 minutes from the bustling Chaweng area.

Just a few minutes’ drive down the road is Choeng Mon, a drive that takes you from the perfect example of a rustic Thai village into an upmarket selection of resorts and classy eateries. Choeng Mon has one of the most idyllic beaches on Koh Samui and attracts many famillies with its golden sands, quiet roads and choice of places to wine and dine by day and night.

Getting There & Away

Thong Sai is accessible in a car on the road that travels north of Choeng Mon and out to the coast. It is an easy drive from Koh Samui airport, 20 minutes away by car and only 10 minutes from the pier at Big Buddha. Samui Airport has regular flights to Bangkok, Thailand’s main international gateway.
