Ao Nang is the most popular tourist town in Krabi Province in the south of Thailand and has only recently grown from a small fishing community into a tourist hotspot. It boasts some of the country’s best diving as well as other activities like rock climbing, kayaking and jungle trekking.
Ao Nang is a great family destination as the main strip that runs adjacent to the sea is full of restaurants and the odd small bar including traditional Thai-style beer bars. The area is famous for its fresh seafood restaurants and they are among the best that Thailand has to offer.
Ao Nang is home to a catfish farm where children can hand feed the fish before swimming in sectioned off areas of the river to cool down. There is a wide range of hotels and guest houses that run from budget to five-star accommodation as well as a nice beach that is popular with locals as well visitors.
Getting There & Away
The airport is only a short drive from Ao Nang and there are taxis, mini buses and songthaew (shared taxis) waiting to take you to Ao Nang. There is also a constant flow of boats and coaches running between the major tourist destinations in the area and a train station in Trang that welcomes daily trains from Bangkok, the main air gateway into the country.
