A broad and beautiful bay on Thailand’s Koh Phi Phi Don, Ao Lo Bakao is dominated by the Phi Phi Island Viillage Resort & Spa. The bungalows here are especially upscale and guests have access to excellent, albeit expensive, restaurants and amenities.
This bay is especially broad, dotted with karst outcroppings that jut out of the water. The water is clear and placid, ideal for a peaceful swim or hours basking on the beach under hundreds of swaying palms. Onsite facilities include tennis courts, sea kayaks and areas for fishing. The hotel operates a PADI-certified diving school that can teach beginners everything they need to know about diving in a few days.
Longboats transfer tourists to Ton Sai Village on a regular basis, but it’s also possible to get around on foot during daylight hours. Beyond the walking path connecting Ao Lo Bakao to Ton Sai, there’s also an opportunity for light jungle treks.
Getting There & Away
Ao Lo Bakao is a short transfer by longtail boat from Ton Sai Bay, where regular ferries depart for Krabi and Phuket (2 to 3 hours). Seaplanes also connect to Phuket in a few minutes’ time. From here, onward flights to Bangkok International Airport connect in an hour.
