Ao Khlong Jak is a tiny bay on the southern end of the Thai island of Koh Lanta Yai. It is home to a steep rocky headland, with gushing streams running through the tropical undergrowth down toward the middle of the beach. Following the stream back up the hill and into the jungle, there is a beautiful waterfall that can only be reached on foot.

Ao Khlong Jak is often described as the best beach on the island for swimming as it has deep crystal clear water and a rock-free sea bed, all of which can be found off the white sand of the quiet beach. The road leading to the secluded beach is more like a track by the time it reaches Ao Khlong Jak and care must be taken when walking if it has been raining.

Ao Khlong Jak Bay is the second to last cove on the south coast of Koh Lanta and is situated north of Ao Mai Pai and south of Ao Kantiang Bay. There are a few guest houses and resorts to choose from since the island has become more popular with tourists, from budget accommodation to a five-star resort.

Getting There & Away

Koh Lanta is south of Krabi and easily accessible by boat. The closest airports are in Krabi and Trang and Route 4 is the best way to reach the ferry port in Hua Hin from both places. All buses, mini vans and taxis take this route while passenger ferries take other routes including Phuket/Phi Phi, Krabi/Ko Jum and Ao Nang/Railay. Once on Koh Lanta, the roads are signed to Ao Khlong Jak Bay and hotels will be happy to provide a map for your journey.
