Anyang is located in central China, in Anyang Henan Province. It is renowned for its old town and Shang Dynasty Royal Cemetery. It’s connected to Zhengzhou by highway and is around 450kms southwest of Beijing.
Walking around the old town of Anyang is the most interesting aspect of a trip here. It is a bit of a dusty place, with unpaved streets and narrow alleys, but has plenty of charm. The section near the Bell Tower on Honqi Lu is the most interesting. This street also has the best shopping in the modern part of town.
There are some good museums in Anyang, built over the tombs of the Shang Dynasty Royal Cemetery. The Wenfeng Pagoda is near the Bell Tower in the southwest of town and is another popular landmark with visitors, while the nearby Gaoge Miao is a decent gallery.
Getting There & Away
Anyang is about 5 hours by train from Beijing along the Beijing-Guangzhou railway. It is also well-connected by road from Beijing by the 107 national highway and the Beijing-Shenzhen expressway. Buses take about the same amount of time to get here as trains. The closest airport is in Zhengzhou 150kms to the south.
