Situated on the far eastern tip of Bali, picturesque Amed has only recently opened up as a tourist destination, making this a great time to visit before too many people discover the area.

Amed is particularly popular with honeymooners and those who want to practise various water sports. A colorful coral reef is located just off the shore, making this the perfect place for scuba diving and snorkeling. Sailing is also popular in Amed and a great way to explore the area is by hiring a boat for the day.

Evening entertainment comes in various shapes and sizes. There are a number of bars and restaurants along the coast, which often host local bands and Balinese dance performances. There are plenty of places to drink and dance here, while some visitors are happy simply to walk hand in hand along the beach as the sun sets.

  • Tirta Gangga: These magnificent water gardens are just a short drive from Amed.

Most visitors to Amed fly into Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport. From here, it is possible to take a bus straight to Amed (2 hours). Buses also travel to Amed from nearby towns and cities such as Candidasa and Bangli.

  • What to do: snorkeling, scuba diving, exploring the local temple, visiting the water gardens.
  • Best time to go: during the dry season between May and September.
  • How long? A day or two is enough time to soak up the sun in Amed.
