Known as ‘America’s first settlement’, Pensacola is located in the northwestern corner of Florida. With a population of less than 60,000, Pensacola does not make it into the top ten cities of Florida. Nevertheless, it is famous for its air force base and rich, 450-year history and is Florida’s second oldest city. Being a sea port on the Gulf of Mexico, Pensacola is a busy harbor town and well known for its naval aviation history. Its beautiful white beaches attract tourists throughout the year.

Nicknamed the ‘City of Five Flags’, Pensacola has a rich history for a North American city. The city has been held by the Spanish, French, British, Confederates and finally the US. Due to its location, right on the coast, Pensacola has seen its share of warring by settlers and experienced devastation by hurricanes. But the city has been successively rebuilt many times and Pensacola remains a beautiful harbor town.

Pensacola is known as the cradle of naval aviation and has a proud military history. The famous US navy airbase in Pensacola has been the backdrop to many a popular TV series. Pensacola is also the home of the world famous Blue Angels flight team, which perform incredible aerial acrobatics. Exploring Pensacola’s naval aviation history is a favorite past time for visitors.

Being on the ocean front, nature and outdoor life is an important aspect of Pensacola and something that attracts many visitors to the area. The area is known for its biodiversity and many animals can be seen in their natural habitat. There are also plenty of outdoor activities for visitors, with four state parks and numerous nature preserves for everyone to enjoy.

Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park: is where visitors can see native plant and animal life up close; with elevated boardwalks, it is a great family outing.

Historic Pensacola Village: is made up of 20 properties that are in the national register that preserve local history and architecture; learn about and experience first-hand West Florida culture and history.

National Museum of Naval Aviation: any child and even most adults will not be able to stop marvelling at the amazing collection of aircraft as this museum; a must visit to experience flight simulators, IMAX theatre and much much more.
